A Harry Potter Halloween

Long before Halloween this year, Courtney said she wanted to dress as Hermione, because she is reading the Harry Potter series now.  So, that became the starting point for our costume theme this year.  I wasn't sure if the kiddos would be into continuing the family costume theme because usually older kids like to go the really "scary" route and don't want to do "cute" anymore for Halloween.  But, of course, Harry Potter lends itself perfectly to both scary AND cute!  And, since we're Harry Potter fanatics around here, it was a cinch to decide to go for it.

The tricky part was Trey.  There aren't many options for a cute Harry Potter toddler costume!  We decided to go with Hedwig as his character.  But finding a costume was a challenge!  We finally ended up going with one of those dopey toddler costumes with the big head that fits on the hood.  I was going to alter it to make it look better, but ultimately I couldn't think of any way to save it.  Besides, he looked pretty cute anyway, just by nature!  That is, once he finally agreed to wear it....

Pictures!

Miss Coco as Hermione Granger, "the Brightest Witch of her Generation."  The fuzzy hair is the result of tiny braids held in her hair for a few hours.  She looked adorable!  She also had a Hermione wand as an accessory which you can't see here.

This is Harry Potter in his Quidditch robes!  He has a scar, goggles, a wand, and a Firebolt.  The boy can flyyyyy!

Harry Potter and Hermione

No shoes yet, but we had to take a picture before the evening light was gone.  This is Chase as a Dementor.  He wore creepy rubber hands and had fun with the rattle-breath spookiness!  Too bad for Chase he's really nothing like a Dementor that sucks the soul of happiness out of all around him and leaves a chill in the air.  Chase is really like a ray of sunshine and fun!  But, he did look cool as a Dementor. :)

Here's Hermione and our cute little Hedwig!

Look at these funny posers!  Here we add Daddy as He Who Must Not Be Named himself, Lord Voldemort and his Horcrux Pet, Nagini the Snake.  He looked creepier than anyone and was totally unrecognizable.  But this is a great picture!  You can see a glimpse of Chase's creepy rubber hands.  Fun!

Defense Against the Dark Arts in practice.

This photo cracks me up.  Can you imagine anything grosser than Professor McGonagall kissing Voldemort?  We enacted this Forbidden Affair just for fun.  Happy Halloween!

So, Trey utterly refused to wear this costume until we bribed him with candy.  Yes, you read that right.  We bribed him with candy.  To force him to wear a costume.  Yup.  That's the kind of parenting to which we subscribe!  He hated that costume, at least until about 20 minutes into the Trick or Treating.  He started to "get" it.  The costume was great after that!

Finally, a picture with all four of our costumed crew!  Cute and creepy!

Great times!  Happy Halloween!
