It was Monday, June 13th and it was SO hot in Orlando! But we managed to have a really fun day by finally making our way to the BEACH! Although we had stopped briefly at Virginia Beach for lunch on our way out of Williamsburg, we hadn't actually gone into the water, nor had we spent enough time for our children to really experience the magical beach/ocean atmosphere (and the taste and feel of salt water going into your nose--ha!). We fixed all of that on that toasty Monday at Cocoa Beach.
We parked near the pier and then found a good spot on the beach to lay out our stuff. After that, we were pretty much all in the water for the next few hours, with a brief excursion back to the towels for hot dogs and nachos (beach food, of course!). We all loved playing in the waves and swimming in the water, body surfing, and playing in the sand.
We would have loved to stay longer, but after a while Nate and I started to observe that, despite layering on the sunscreen, our kids were starting to look a little "extra crispy" on their usually white skin. We packed up our stuff and about 5 gallons of sand and headed to the local 7-11 for big, big drinks, since we had a very thirsty crew!
After the beach, we did a "drive-by" of the Kennedy Space Station. It was cool to see where it was and to see some of the rocket displays they had outside. But, due to our sandy exteriors (and the fact that tickets to the visitor's center were $50 for each person over 12 years old...yikes!), we didn't go on the tour. Instead, we headed back to our home base and got cleaned up and rested in preparation for an exciting day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

| I'll throw in this picture first to show our brief experience at Virginia Beach. We stopped there on our way out of Williamsburg, but this is as close as we got to the water. We could only park there for 20 minutes, so after we finished our ice cream, we hit the road again! |

ReplyDeleteOne detail you probably don't remember but I want to be recorded for eternity: after we got our BIG GULPS I drank a quart of cherry Dr. Pepper in about five minutes. Something of which I am very proud.
