This Heroes book club was held on March 16. Everyone had a great time, just like last time.
The book was called Abraham Lincoln: God's leader for a nation. Because much of the information that came from Lincoln's own records, it was written in the first person. Everyone agreed it was much easier to read than the Wright Brothers book.
Avery led the discussion, and he did a good job at it! He had a little trouble preparing the questions for the discussion at first, but after that, he did great! I made the refreshments for the first time ever. I made Abraham Lincoln hats from chocolate cookies and mini peanut butter cups. We also had popcorn with added butter or cheese flavoring. We had a little trouble making the popcorn and a couple of the bags got burnt. We did not want the bad smell during book club, so Avery decided to declare "war" on bad smells. He used Febreeze air freshener. It went pretty well.
For the activity, we held a mock election for president. Whoever won would get an applause and would be the first one to go to the table for snacks. Christian Johansen and Riley Standifird were nominated to run. Each candidate gave speeches telling the voters (everyone else in the book club) why they were the best choice for president; the second part of the speech was a quote from an actual speech by Abraham Lincoln. The candidates are shown giving their speeches in the pictures below. After that, we held the election. Johansen won the election with 8 votes to Standifird's 5. (I put in their last names to be like an actual election.)
After we had the refreshments, everyone went outside and started a game of tag. That was pretty much the end.
You have a very distinctive "voice" to your writing, Chase. Not many college students can claim that, even the Writing Majors. Great work!
