This year's Raingutter Regatta with the Cub Scouts lacked the "punch" we have experienced at the event in the past. The two main reasons for this were: (1) It was run by brand new Pack Masters who had never done it before. They are newlyweds who don't yet have children. I'm not criticizing them in the least; I thought they actually did a great job considering their inexperience. But there are nuances to the Raingutter Regatta . . . nuances, I tell you! This includes the importance of NOT running a single-elimination race when you have two hours scheduled for the event . . . AND planning for crowd (children) control . . . AND not holding the event in an extremely windy outdoor location. (2) Chase was too old to participate this time. Big Bummer!
Anyway, Avery had a super-fast and super-cool boat! He's not even sure what place he came in, but the only boat that beat his was the first place winner. He was pretty excited about that, especially when he beat the winner in an unofficial race after the tournament was over.
He had a great time and loved the experience! And he was a good sport about how it didn't really go as he expected (and as he had experienced back in Westminster). To me, that was the most important thing! And the fact that he and his Dad were proud of their awesome boat, no matter the outcome.
