Piano Recital

Below you will find posted the videos of the boys' performances at their first recital under their new piano teacher, Cheryl Reeder.  This recital happened on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 at the Reeder home (which happens to be right down the street!).  Both boys have been taking lessons from Cheryl since August.

Chase had taken 10 months of lessons from his previous instructor, Rebecca Jo Hansen, when we lived in Parker.  His progress during that time astounded all of us!  And he has continued to progress since changing teachers.  The piece he performed at the recital was so beautiful; I really loved it!  Sister Reeder holds two fall recitals, with half of her students performing at each one.  She lines them up to perform according to experience and skill level, and she saves the couch in the back for her very best students.  And, guess who was on the couch for his FIRST recital with her?  That's right!  It was Chase!

At first I was nervous when she announced that those on the couch were given that honor because they were the best, because I thought it would put more pressure on Chase to perform perfectly.  But, he didn't seem to flinch; he played beautifully!  The other two girls on the couch with him were 14 years old and 17 years old, with many more years of experience.  So, he has really done quite well!  At least he has some competition to keep working at it.  I hope you enjoy his performance.  He was wonderful!

Avery also performed at this recital, and although he wasn't on the couch, he wasn't just a beginner, either.  Which is pretty astounding, considering the boy has only been taking formal lessons for 3 1/2 months.  Of course, if you know Avery, you know he was observing everything Chase learned during his piano lessons last year VERY closely.  He also went through a short series of self-study DVD's that Nate got when he bought the piano last year.  So, by the time we let him take the real lessons, Avery was already pretty advanced!

Still, can you imagine being able to play a 4-minute 3-movement Sonatina for your VERY FIRST recital, your VERY FIRST performance, after only 3 1/2 months of formal lessons?  Well, believe it or not, Avery did it, with amazing poise and skill...and I was simply blown away.  AMAZING!!!!!

These boys leave me speechless.  I'm so blessed to see them develop their talents and grow into such fine young men!  And here are a few pictures from the recital as well:
