Life Is But A Dream: Colonial Williamsburg

On our trip we stayed in Williamsburg for three days. I liked the resort. I didn't have to share a bed, and we slept on the top floor. One day we ate blueberry muffins for breakfast. They were good.

The first day, we went to a place called Colonial Williamsburg. There was lots of stuff to do and see, and that's why it was one of my favorite places- even though there was a lot of walking! Williamsburg was the place Virginia declared independence for all the colonies. We had a 3-day pass to Williamsburg, so we went every day!

I think my favorite part was taking a tour of the coffee house. They gave us samples of authentic hot cocoa from the 17th and 18th centuries. It was good.

First we watched the soldiers shoot a cannon. It was loud!

We got our picture taken with a lady there. The workers all wore period costumes and taught us about what life was like back then. Right after this picture we got some yummy homemade ice cream. But while we were sitting outside eating it, a bird up in a tree pooped on Daddy!

We watched the people "storm the palace." It was basically just a play about when the British governor arranged for all the gunpowder and ammunition to be removed from the Williamsburg Magazine in the middle of the night (he was afraid of Virginians rebelling against the English like they were doing in Boston...bad move, Governor!). The people were angry at the governor, but they didn't actually go in to the palace. They just argued outside for a while and decided to discuss it later.

We came back the next day after visiting Jamestown Settlement. This is a picture of us outside the palace Inside the palace it was like an armory because they had stored so many weapons there. They were all up on the wall for decoration. It was strange.

Inside the bush maze by the palace! We ran through this lots of times and had races. It was really fun!

Candlelit lunch at an authentic restaurant there! We were in the cellar where it was nice and cool, but dark. Trey and I got hats on the first day there because it was so hot. They were also from the colonial period.

A panoramic view of the inside of the Capitol. We learned a lot here about when Virginia declared independence before the colonies did it all together. Lots of famous people spent time in this building!
